The client

Creative Scotland is the public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries across Scotland. Its Opportunities tool is where creative organisations advertise jobs, commissions, residencies, calls for entries, workshops, studio space and other opportunities, and where artists and freelancers go to find them.

What the platform needed to do

The platform serves two groups. Organisations need a simple way to register and post an opportunity. Artists and freelancers need to find relevant opportunities quickly, across many categories and every part of Scotland, and see clearly when each one closes. As a public service, it also has to be accessible, secure and reliable.

What we built

We built the Opportunities platform as a web application. Organisations register, sign in and post opportunities. Visitors search and filter by date, type of opportunity, creative area and location, from individual council areas to “All Scotland”, the rest of the UK and international. Each listing shows its closing date and time, and visitors can save the listings they are interested in.

How we support it

We host the platform and look after it day to day, including security updates and improvements, so Creative Scotland’s team can focus on the creative community rather than the technology. Read more about our support and maintenance service.

Rebuilt in 2026

The original platform was built in ASP.NET. In 2026 we replaced it with a new version built with Laravel and MySQL, keeping the same features for organisations and visitors while moving the service onto a modern, well-supported framework. Read more about our approach to legacy modernisation.
